Equation Editing in MS Word

Last Modified: August 21st, 2009

Since it's difficult to convey written mathematics in an electronic medium, I'm trying to make some tools available to you and show you a few old mathematician's tricks for typesetting math and English. As you might suspect from my early email questions, one method for conveying mathematics in writing is to simply write it by hand, scan it with a scanner, and save it in a nice format (GIF, JPEG, or PDF, for instance.) that can be uploaded to a presentation, discussion or home page that everyone can see.

A skill I want you to learn is how to embed equations in a word document, and upload the word document to the course website. We will work on that in orientation and some of you may even finish by the end of our first class meeting.
